OUR VISION

We envision accessible communities where inclusion of all abilities is interwoven into the fabric of daily life.

OUR CORE VALUES

Community

Everyone should have access to a safe space in which to live, love, work and play, where people care about each other and share authentic friendships.

Responsibility

Each individual’s contribution to the community ensures the well-being of the greater whole, and each individual plays a role in promoting and protecting the rights of each other.

Respect

Every person deserves to be treated with kindness and to live within a culture of tolerance, compassion, and appreciation.

Diversity

Everyone benefits from a culture of belonging, where individual talents, beliefs, and backgrounds are valued. We recognize and acknowledge the feelings and lived experiences of each other, especially those most different from ourselves.

Inclusion

Each of our lives is enriched through new experiences and relationships that honor and embrace the range of humanity, including differences in ability.

Agency

All individuals will experience greater self-determination, fulfill their potential, and thrive through access to affordable resources, options, and support.

Better Living Together

Better Living Together (BLT) was founded in 2016 by Tim and Beate Sass after their daughter, who has an intellectual and developmental disability (IDD), graduated from high school and wanted to live independently. In searching for options, they discovered that affordable, integrated housing for individuals with IDD did not exist in Georgia. They created BLT to expand opportunities for people with disabilities to live in their communities alongside non-disabled peers.

Their story reflects a broader challenge. Each year, more than 3,200 Georgians with IDD leave high school hoping for independent lives, but most find few options and remain isolated, living with aging parents or in segregated settings. Working with families and community partners to develop affordable, accessible, and disability-inclusive housing, BLT has become the leading advocate addressing the housing crisis for adults with IDD in Georgia.
